Western Mass Climbers Coalition

Welcome to the homepage of the Western Mass Climbers' Coalition! Founded on a few core ideas scratched on a napkin in a bar at the dawn of time, we are a non-profit representing over 350 members, hard at work preserving access to the incredible rock climbing resources of western Massachusetts.

Our latest and greatest project is progressing very well, in spite of hurdles that would tire even Flo Jo. The acquisition of land abutting southern New England’s best kept secret, Farley Ledge, has thrived due to the dedication and financial willpower of an extraordinary community of devoted climbers. The great news is that we have completed the public parking area and trail head on WMCC owned land. Most of this work was completed at last fall’s Adopt-a-Crag day.

Aside from the day to day news of preserving lands and saving the world, Farley and surrounding areas have continued to experience new route development and steady streams of visitors who have come to climb some of the incredibly varied rock in western Massachusetts. From classic gneiss slopers, basalt pinches, pocketed conglomerate, and granite slabs, this end of the state has something to offer everyone. World class bouldering, sport climbing and trad routes are scattered throughout the area putting Massachusetts on the radar for many climbers. We expect that after you “Climb Gneiss,” that you will see why. Looking forward to seeing you out there!

While our work continues to push forward, the WMCC still needs your support to finish paying for the Farley Ledge project. Your tax deductible donation helps ensure the success of this project and others to come. Please consider a donation today by clicking on the Donate button on the right-hand side of this page.

Thanks for checking in and your continued support. Climb hard and Climb Gneiss!

New Website

So as you can see, we have officially launched a new website which contains many new and exciting changes. We are hopeful that this new format will provide the public with more up-to-date information and give the WMCC the tools needed to better involve the climbing community. Among the changes; new crags have been added as well as an updated public image library, a public forum will be set up, planning documents will be available to help you better understand the WMCC aspirations. Please bear with us as many portions of the new site are still in the development phase.

We will be continually adding content in the upcoming months and as you browse through the new format, please don't hesitate to let us know if you have any thoughts or recommendations. We encourage your input. Our email and mailing is still the same ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ).

We hope you enjoy it and keep checking back.

Fundraising

The WMCC has continued to expand it's mission protecting and preserving climbing areas in western Mass with another very successful year. We've got an aggressive agenda for 2010 both in terms of fundraising and protection efforts. The latest news is the transfer of our remaining $30,000 commercial loan for the Farley property to the Access Fund saving the WMCC nearly $3,500 in interest.  Money we can put to better use elsewhere. Check the Access Fund for more information. (www.accessfund.org)

The financial obligations to continue the work we do remain however and we are asking all of you in the climbing community and those that support the mission of the WMCC to consider an end of year donation. Any and all amounts are valuable.
