Summer 2008……..
Welcome to homepage of the Western Mass Climbers' Coalition! Founded on a few core ideas scratched on a napkin in a bar at the dawn of time, we are a non-profit representing over 350 members, hard at work preserving access to the incredible rock climbing resources of western Massachusetts. Our latest and greatest project is progressing very well, in spite of hurdles that would tire even Flo Jo. The acquisition of land abutting southern New England’s best kept secret, Farley Ledges, has thrived due to the dedication and financial willpower of an extraordinary community of devoted climbers. The great news is that we are closing in on our goal: to establish a public access point, parking area, and trail system scheduled to be completed for this fall’s Adopt-a-Crag day. Keep an eye out for email updates, and be sure to be there!
However, don’t take this as a victory lap accompanied by banners reading “Mission Accomplished!” There is still plenty to be done! With a stressed economy and an administration more focused on offshore drilling than environmental preservation, the fiscal opportunities for our non-profit have become limited. Truly, the greatest compliment one can offer is to continue to contribute to the cause. Farley isn’t safe yet! Please visit our link to donate!
Aside from the day to day news of preserving lands and saving the world, Farley and surrounding areas have continued to experience new route development and steady streams of visitors to climb the classic gneiss slopers, crimps, cracks, slabs, and roofs. Boasting over 200 trad and sport routes and countless boulder problems of every grade, these are surely resources that we have a vested interest in preserving. We expect that after you “Climb Gneiss,” that you will feel the same. Looking forward to seeing you out there!
Fundraising is not over.
The WMCC is still actively pursuing funding for this project and your contribution helps.
